Dalia è cresciuta a Londra e oggi è una giovane priva di motivazioni, ambizioni e prospettive per il futuro. Per questo, la madre la spedisce in un paesino delle Langhe per prendersi cura del nonno Igor, malato di demenza senile, convinta che la vita di campagna possa aiutarla a trovare uno scopo. Al suo arrivo, Dalia scopre che la situazione è tragica: la salute del nonno peggiora di giorno in giorno, e le grandi aziende vinicole della zona premono per impossessarsi della terra da tartufi che circonda casa sua, sfrattando l'anziano. Per racimolare i soldi necessari a mantenere la casa, Igor insegna i segreti dei trifolai a Dalia, spedendola nei boschi insieme al cane Birba alla ricerca di quel tartufo bianco che potrebbe salvarli dallo sfratto.
